TWENTY YEARS
It was past dusk
A full moon was rising
Blushing
Pink and round.
You pointed and said,
“Look….
Isn’t she beautiful?”
I nodded and looked at you.
Twenty years
Have passed
You still are the same
Twenty years
Of calling out my name.
No more do we talk of undying love
No more do we look into a distant sky
No more do we hold hands and sigh.
Still, I long for your touch
So gentle, so soft….
It makes me smile –
I want it so much.
“Can you imagine life without me?”
I ask
Shyly,
Displaying my insecurity.
“Can you, without me?”
You reply,
Typically.
I simply shrug
And let it be.
Some things are better
When they are a mystery.
